About the Chef

Uncle Lou’s Story

I was a little boy, who grew up in Grandma’s kitchen. Instead of being out and a’playin, I was in the kitchen with Grandma.  As I grew older I kind of liked it, but photography called me.  I designed department store windows, took beautiful photographs, and got a degree in Graphic Design.  However, God had a call on my life and I moved forward from photography and earned a Master of Divinity degree.

Meanwhile, the kitchen continued to call me. I began to cook like my Granma taught me.  I cooked this and I cooked that and created a delicious sauce for ribs. chicken, and seafood. And, boy, oh boy is it good on veggies!  It will make you smack your lips! And little sweat beads will hit your forehead. And you will say, “Give me more. Yes, give me more!”  You’ll smack your lips and tap your toes and say give me more, more, more: Uncle Lou’s Zydeco Creole Gourmet Sauce!

Now what is this sauce, you might ask. Along the 55-year journey in ministry, Louis Shockley AKA Uncle Lou, began to explore his passion for the flavors of his early upbringing.  Some members of the family and some friends played scrub boards, spoon, and harmonicas, thus creating the deep tunes of New Orleans and its early days; and always there was somebody who knew how to play a hand piano (accordion). At camp meetings in Maryland and family gatherings in the marshes of Louisiana coasts, food was always at the center.

God has given me the greatest tool of all to show the love of humanity.  It's in the sauce!  No matter your race or your culture, the "rue" brings all people together; no matter who you are or your differences!  It's always the food, the recipes, and the flavors that unite us all.  It's my greatest joy to invite all to the table.  My sauces are a taste of the heart of Louisiana....Let the good times roll!
